Happy Mother’s Day

On this Mother’s Day, I want to send my gratitude to you for your steadfast love, patience, and dedication to nurturing children through the Educaring Approach. Recognizing that there are Mothers, Fathers, Abbas, Eemas, Bubbies, Hahas, Tatas, Vaders, Eommas, Mutters, Aunties, Uncles, Nonnas, and Nannies…and a whole host of other custodial and caring figures on this list, I also want to extend this gratitude to you as well.

It’s funny, was looking for some Magda Gerber words of wisdom on mother’s day, and this is the first one that popped up:

The most valuable thing we can provide for our children is our time and our undivided attention. In the moments when we are fully present with them, we communicate our love, our acceptance, and our willingness to listen without judgment.

But, as valuable as undivided attention is, and as delicious as it feels for both parties when we are fully present…it is exhausting to be so present all of the time! So, I settled on this, instead, as my Magda Gerber Mother’s Day wish for you:

If we are to nourish our children’s souls, we need to respect their need for solitude as well as their hunger for community. In order to care for others, we need to care for ourselves.
We need to create a space within ourselves and within our homes that feels
safe, calm, and nurturing.

So, this Mother’s Day, Magda and I want to say that I hope that you all are remembering to create that space in your hearts and in your homes to care for yourself.
