A New Day and a New Role

You know, 9 years ago today, I drove away from the RIE Office in Hollywood, entering a big unknown. I was ending a 9 year career as Office and Program Manager and I didn’t really know what was next.

And today, I’m sitting at my desk near my playroom, winding down a three year stint as RIE’s Executive Director.

(Something about October seems to stir me…hmm.)

I have a clearer expectation of what I think will come next for me today than I did a decade ago…a deepening of my opportunities to practice Magda Gerber’s Educaring Approach…in classes, in care, in writing, reading and reflecting…but I’m also open to slowing down to see what presents itself to me as I step into this next unknown. One concrete step I’m taking is toward offering small group childcare in my home for RIE families!

This was not a hasty decision, and I didn’t make it without some nervousness, but I know that it was the right one for me. I am leaving behind organizational leadership, but I will never leave Magda Gerber’s work. It has shaped my life for more than 25 years, and I can’t see a way forward without that framework.

The biggest change for you, dear reader, should be only that you’ll start hearing from me more regularly again…I’m truly excited to get back to writing about RIE.

If you have any thoughts, questions, observations, or wonderings….please let me know!
